december in the studio + in the garden

A favorite part of the holidays at the studio (and year-round!) is relaying the sweet gift messages you all include with your orders to their recipients. I always feel so honored to be entrusted with your words of love, comfort and encouragement to each other. Truly grateful to be a part of your holidays again this year!

I feel the pull a bit more with each passing year to spend the weeks leading up to the first day of winter in a way that feels as harmonious as possible with the true energy of the season, moving more slowly, marking the days with gentler, simpler rituals. Letting that be more than enough.

if I can help it, I will never be without many jars of fragrant paperwhites blooming in december

a collection of vintage treasures awaiting their new homes

a fresh delivery of beautiful regeneratively farmed cardamom pods, to be blended into perfume & tea

the view from my desk as I pack each order

the magic of our native plant beds at 6&B continues into the winter months, with wands of gorgeous seedheads. as much as possible, we leave the spent foliage alone until spring, so birds can enjoy the seeds over the winter and any overwintering insects have a chance to emerge before we trim things back in the spring.

a vibrant bunch of rosehips from a recent trip to NYBG, a pleasure to visit in every season

the towering seedheads of our New York Ironweed against the winter sky. this lovely giant of a plant has been seeding itself around the garden over the last few seasons, much to my delight.

golden ribbons of leaves on what we think is a seaside goldenrod plant that no one can quite remember planting. the winter garden is a feast of shape and texture that can only be appreciated when all the green has fallen away. there is beauty to be found everywhere.

Sending you all my best for the year to come,
